All classes are given a certain amount of homework four days a week. Wednesday is “No Homework Day” 

For good learning it is essential that all students reinforce and revise the days work at home on a regular, daily  basis. Most parents report that their children do not study unless there is specific homework assigned to them  and they spend their afternoons and evenings on screens. 

Recommended time for Homework 

It is strongly recommended for students to sit down for their work right after lunch when they can still recall their  teachers’ instructions and the details of the work. Once the written and learning tasks are done children can go  out to play and select any healthy recreational activity. 

Homework which starts late in the evening or at night is generally poorly done with plenty of careless mistakes  and is frequently not completed. 

At LSL our Homework Policy is structured to make the amount and content effective, meaningful and acceptable. Highlights

• English, Urdu and Maths (2 – 3 times a week) 

• Science, Social Studies, Islamiyat, ICT, Global Perspectives (1-2 times a week) 

• Amount is set according to age and grade level. 

• Work is to be done by the students on their own. Whatever they are unable to do is to be asked from the  teacher the next day. Parents (and other adults) are not to do the work for the students. 

Parents It is their responsibility to provide a clean and quiet environment for children to do their work. Strictly  no music or television during this time. Parents are to monitor and supervise, provide guidance and support, but  not to actually dictate answers or write them for copying down. Whenever a child is unable to do the work or is  confused, parents are to write a note to the relevant teacher in the diary e.g Science Teacher, Ali could not  complete his Science homework because …(reason)…… followed by the parent’s signature. 

Types of Homework 

• Completing class assignments. 

• Practice, corrections and rewriting of dictation words and other checked work. 

• Final or neat draft of Creative Writing 

• Practice exercises for grammar and vocabulary, math tables. 

• Research from dictionaries, thesaurus, books, magazines, newspapers, television, internet; interviews of  friends and family, calculations of family accounts; noting names of items; finding out costs; looking up  meanings. 

• Reading story books, magazines, newspapers, textbooks or other material. 

• Learning spellings, definitions, Maths tables, poems, Quranic Surahs, presentation material, new  concepts, facts, details. 

• Test preparation concentrated studying of specific chapters or topics for check up tests, assessments  and exams 

• Writing Practice for correct formation of letters and numbers, spacing of words, writing rules of cursive  writing 

• Diagrams and Maps drawing, labelling, colouring, practice 

• Missed work due to absence or late admission. All students are expected to complete the work missed  for different reasons. Only very young children (up to Grade 2) would get this work done by their  teachers. 

Homework Diary 

All the given homework is noted down from the board by the students, and the teachers initial the entries. In  case of problems with the work parents are to write a note for the teacher. 

Parents must check the diary daily as it is also used for communication between parents and teachers. Parents  must sign everyday. This is particularly important for senior students as well.
